The Bookstore at The University of Montana

Missoula, Mont. • 2000-2013

  • Designed and maintained multiple websites, both for The Bookstore and other campus entities.
  • Designed advertising, signage, and related graphic identity for the store.
  • Designed multiple wall calendars and day planners for use by the campus community.
  • As a member of the store’s marketing team, helped plan public relations and marketing goals.
  • IT responsibilities including hardware repair; network, server, and user support.
  • Managed the store’s domain name purchases and DNS tables.

Major Projects:

MontanaGrizzlies.com

Editor-in-chief of a site that served as the official site of Grizzly athletics until January 2011 and continued in partnership with the Missoulian newspaper until August 2012, when the domain was sold to the University of Montana. MontanaGrizzlies.com was a fast-paced, deadline-driven site that focused on providing high-quality content before it was available anywhere else.

  • Managed a small team of employees and interns.
  • Created the overall site design and worked with database programmer to integrate design into the custom content management system.
  • Created advertising and marketing materials for the site, including print and video ads.
  • Wrote and self-edited post-game recaps under tight deadlines.
  • Shot and edited video features, most commonly weekly press conferences. Also edited highlight videos of football and basketball games using broadcast footage.
  • Shot and edited still sports action and feature photographs for website use, as well as print use in marketing.
  • Extensive copy editing experience of written copy by staff reporters, often under tight deadlines.
  • Managed comprehensive on-location website coverage of major Grizzly events in locations such as Missoula, Bozeman, Spokane, Wash., and Albuquerque, N.M.
  • Provided pre- and in-game technical support for the live statistics system at basketball, football, soccer and volleyball games.

MontanaBookstore.com

Primarily responsible for the store’s main web presence. MontanaBookstore.com provides general information about the store, as well as e-commerce sales of textbooks, general books, Griz merchandise, and other store items.

  • Adapted site designs to function with content management systems.
  • Managed the e-commerce presence, including a team of student employees.
  • Photographed and edited products for online sale.
  • Oversaw multiple site redesigns and coordinated a transition to a new content management system.

Big Sky High School

Missoula, Mont. • 2008 – 2015

Tennis coach

Taught tennis skills to high school players, managed all aspects of a high school sports team, managed assistant coaches and volunteers, supervised teenage players during practice, matches and trips, communicated with media outlets, organized tournaments and other related competitions.

New Horizons Computer Learning Center

Facilities Engineer

Prepared classrooms for computer training courses; administrated the center’s computer network; provided computer and network technical support for the center’s staff.

Montana Kaimin

Missoula, Mont. • 1998-1999

Design Editor

Member of the Kaimin editorial board; led the four-person design staff, managed the work schedule; worked in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, team environment; responsible for design, layout and editing of the daily Kaimin and GameDay Kaimin.

Fire Starter Pinecone Award

UM DiverseU website • 2014
One of six awards given annually for sites using UM’s Project Ponderosa. This award was given for the DiverseU website. “This site is a great example of a well crafted visuals, and the custom background gives the site a unique identity while still allowing the content to shine through.”

Employee of the Month

University Center – UM • April 2014
Award given to one staff employee and one student employee every month. This award was given in recognition of the re-design of a program website and using web-based tools to solve scheduling problems for another program.

Jan Dowse Volunteer of the Year Award

USTA Intermountain • 2008
Named after Jan Dowse, former Executive Director of the Utah Tennis Association, this award is given to Intermountain’s volunteer or staffmember of the year to recognize his or her outstanding contributions, personal unselfishness and devotion to the game. USTA Intermountain is a sectional association of the United States Tennis Association. The USTA Intermountain Section is one of 17 sections of the United States Tennis Association and boasts more than 39,450 individual and over 411 organizational members in its six Districts (states) Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.

Volunteer of the Year Award

USTA Montana • 2007
This award is given to Montana’s volunteer or staffmember of the year to recognize his or her outstanding contributions, personal unselfishness and devotion to the game. Winners become finalists for the following year’s award at the sectional level. USTA Montana is a district association of the United States Tennis Association and USTA Intermountain.

Native News Honors Project

UM School of Journalism • Designer • 1997, 1998, 1999
The Native News Honors Project is an annual publication of the UM School of Journalism researching, reporting and photographing stories about Montana’s Native American community. It is printed in tab format and distributed throughout the state and nation.
